Six-step selection guide

From lighting load to the right driver

Use these checks to prepare a clear selection brief and reduce the risk of a voltage, power or installation mismatch.

01

Confirm the mains supply

Record the project input voltage, frequency and whether the supply is stable across the installation site.

02

Match the output voltage

Use the LED load voltage as the first filter: 12 V, 24 V or 48 V. The driver output and lighting load must match.

03

Calculate the load

Add the rated wattage of all connected LED loads. Allow suitable headroom for start-up, voltage drop and future load adjustment.

04

Check the installation environment

Choose indoor, rainproof or IP67 protection based on exposure to weather, moisture, dust and insects.

05

Confirm dimming compatibility

Check the control method, dimming range and system compatibility before selecting a dimmable model.

06

Validate dimensions and wiring

Confirm enclosure space, mounting direction, cable entry and heat dissipation with LIAM before ordering.

Outdoor selection focus

Protection is more than a product label

Rain, moisture, dust, insects and installation orientation can affect long-term performance. Select the protection level for the complete installation, not only the driver enclosure.

Rainproof options

Review the High-End Rainproof and Rainproof Semi-Potted series for exposed outdoor lighting projects that require rain protection.

IP67 sealed design

The Engineering Shield IP67 Series uses a fully sealed, resin-potted structure for landscape and other exposed outdoor applications.

Protect every connection

Use suitable cable entries, sealing, drainage and mounting orientation so water cannot collect around connectors or wiring.

Confirm the full installation

Share the mounting position, exposure conditions and control requirement with LIAM before selecting the final model.

Selection FAQ

Questions before choosing an
LED power supply

Five common planning questions for indoor, outdoor and dimmable LED lighting projects.

What should I prepare before choosing an LED power supply?

Prepare the LED load voltage, total load wattage, mains input voltage and frequency, installation environment, dimming or control requirement, ambient conditions and available installation space. Sharing these details with LIAM helps narrow the selection quickly.

How do I choose between 12V, 24V and 48V LED power supplies?

Match the power supply output to the rated input of the LED load. 12 V is often used for compact low-voltage systems, 24 V is common for longer runs and higher-power lighting, and 48 V is used for compatible 48 V systems such as magnetic lighting. Never connect a load to a different output voltage unless the load and system are explicitly rated for it.

How should I calculate the required LED power supply wattage?

Add the rated wattage of every connected LED load, then allow suitable headroom for start-up, voltage drop and future adjustments. As a general planning practice, many projects allow around 20-30% headroom, but the final margin should be confirmed against the selected model, load type and installation conditions.

Which LED power supply series are suitable for outdoor lighting?

Use the Outdoor filter to review the High-End Rainproof, Rainproof Semi-Potted and Engineering Shield IP67 series. The required protection depends on exposure, mounting position, drainage and how the cable entries and connectors are protected. Confirm the complete installation method before ordering.

Can LIAM help match a power supply to a lighting project?

Yes. Send LIAM the load voltage, total wattage, mains input, installation environment, control method, dimensions and project quantity. The team can recommend a suitable series and confirm the exact model, options and technical details for the project.
